About Queen Mother Gardens

Queen Mother Gardens is a purpose-built sheltered accommodation that provides very sheltered accommodation with 24 hour support for older people with sight loss. Queen Mother Gardens is based in Harborne, Birmingham and was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1991.

Queen Mother Gardens provides accommodation with innovative assistive technology to support independence including, route recognition aids, wide hallways and doorways, contrast décor and flooring, audible aids, guide rails and markers, talking notice board, a speech guided lift and tactile signage to assist tenants to move freely around their apartments and the building in safety and with ease.

At Queen Mother Gardens you will be supported by a team of highly trained, dedicated and professional staff who provide 24 hour, 365 days a year support to residents. New Outlook believes in delivering a service with the customer at the heart of everything we do. With specialist training and expertise in supporting people with sight impairments, our staff will work with you to design a person centred care plan using the Eden Alternative Principles. This means your care plan will be personal to you and designed in partnership depending on your needs, wishes and ambitions.

We also organise group activities and trips both locally and further afield that you may wish to join us on.

Our Facilities

Queen Mother Gardens consists of 25 spacious, unfurnished apartments. To help you feel at home, we encourage you to furnish your new apartment to your own tastes. All our apartments are warm and well insulated and come with double glazing and:

  • Spacious kitchen
  • A well proportioned lounge
  • Double bedroom
  • Large bathrooms, with level walk-in showers or adapted baths
  • TV and telephone sockets
  • Adjustable lighting
  • Wardrobe and storage

Communal Facilities

Alongside your own apartment, you will also have access to shared communal facilities with our other residents. Designed with our customer’s specific needs in mind, our communal area includes a lounge and dining area that encourages social interaction and is used to host social activities and events. Our communal facilities also include:

  • A spacious garden with special adaptions to help you enjoy it all year round
  • Assisted, fully adapted bathroom facility
  • Fully equipped Laundry room
  • Secure door entry system and alarmed windows to ensure your safety and security
  • 24 hour emergency care call and pendant system
  • A private guest room for entertaining, family, friends and visitors

Apartments are let to tenants in return for rent and service charge. Service charge covers the cost of support staff and communal facilities. Tenants on a low income may be eligible for housing benefit. Tenants are responsible for their own electricity, telephone bills and in certain cases council tax.
